Simon brought unlikely people together. In the photo to the left, he's brainstorming some song ideas to Muhammed Ali, Sammy Davis, Jr., and Richie Havens. They were working on a film funded by the Nation Of Islam (Louis Farrakhan was in the room but off camera).
I took part in a tribute to Simon in 2018, when he was known to be pretty ill. People who associate me with the smooth stylings of Neil Diamond, and other singers I worked with over the years, would have been surprised to see me on a bill with Simon's chums Terry Reid and Jellow Biafra, but it was hard to find the right file folder for Simon, and that was one of the reasons he was loved by so many different types.
